Metagaming

Metagaming is the use of information or knowledge (also referred to as "meta") that the player is aware of but that the character they are currently playing has no realistic access to, or has not yet learned themselves. This is typically done as an act of "powergaming" in order to give themselves an unfair advantage or prioritize the progression of their own roleplay. You cannot know or act on any information that your character hasn't directly learned in-game through active RP.

1. Nameplates

“Nameplating”  – Identifying players, tribes, creatures or structures through use of their nameplate or in game text is prohibited.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Using a nameplate to locate a hidden player that would not otherwise be visible.
  • Using a nameplate to identify a player who is clearly in an acceptable disguise.
  • Using a nameplate to identify the owner of an unknown structure or tame.
  • Using chat tags to identify characters and clan names.

Acceptable Exceptions

  • Observing "Underage Tags" and treating characters appropriate to that tag.
  • Observing "Company Tags" on lost tames only for the express purpose of returning the tame to the player.
  • Observing the Nameplate in order to report a rulebreak following the roleplay.

2. Game Mechanics

You may not use game notifications, logs and most UI indicators as in character knowledge (unless explicitly stated).

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Tribe/Clan Activity Log Information.
  • On-Screen Game Alerts and Notifications.
  • Map Location Indicators and UI-Information.
  • Bed Spawn Indicators and UI-Information.
  • Painting UI information to view full designs.

3. External Information

Your character may not use any information that you may have gathered from outside of your roleplay on the server (unless explicitly stated).

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Information from websites and player-made game guides.  This does not pertain to information we post on the in-game guidebook or on our website specifically to help players adapt to the city.
  • Information obtained from Discord or private communication.
  • Information obtained through viewing another player's livestream.
  • Knowledge gathered during playtime on a different character.
  • Knowledge of "server rules" or any references to the existence of such.

4. Stream Sniping

Players may not use the information found within a livestream or its chatroom to affect the active roleplay on the server.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Using a livestream to aid in finding or avoiding a specific player.
  • Using a livestream to time or script a roleplay interaction.
  • Using a livestream to spy on or gain meta information.
  • Using a livestream to harass, grief, bully, or "meme on" a player.

Warning
If you are actively playing on the server, you are not allowed to view the livestream or chat of any other player who is actively roleplaying in the same area of the map as your current character. Because there is no way to prove a player's intention, potentially valid reports will be issued an automatic suspension regardless of your reason for viewing the stream. Focus on the roleplay and close the stream if you might run into the broadcaster!
